This is another ingenious way to use Google’s SMS Channels for India. If you want your Orkut scrap updates to be delivered directly to your mobile via SMS instead of having to login to Orkut everytime to check for scraps, you can use this tutorial.
Just log on to your Orkut Profile and get your Orkut User ID / UID. You can do that by right clicking on your Profile pic or name > Copy Link address / Copy Shortcut.
Just cut out the UID part of the that link, it is the 20 digit number at the end of your profile URL. – http://www.orkut.co.in/Main#Profile.aspx?uid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX. Copy that 20 digit number and append it to this string.
http://www.orkut.com/Scrapbook.aspx?uid= such that it becomes http://www.orkut.com/Scrapbook.aspx?uid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Next, just go to http://www.orkutfeeds.com and enter the http://www.orkut.com/Scrapbook.aspx?uid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX there and click on Subscribe.
You will get your Orkut Scrapbook Feed URL – http://www.orkutfeeds.com/feed.php?uid=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX where the xxx.. is your UID.
Just login to Google using your Google account and go to: http://labs.google.co.in/smschannels/browse
You will need to register with your mobile number and verify it if you are a first time user.
Next, click on Create Your Own Channel.
Enter the Channel name, Description etc and in the source, select RSS / Atom Feed and enter your Orkut Scrapbook’s RSS feed URL.
Tick the ‘Allow Publishing by – only ME’ and ‘Who can subscribe – By Invitation Only’ options. You can set the content to the Title or the Title with Body.
Click Create Channel and you are done. You will now receive your Orkut Scrap updates via SMS. The updates won’t be SMSed to you instantly but will have some time delay. Happy Orkutting!

I have always used BlackBerry cell phones since I could afford one. They are extremely trustworthy and still have many amazing features. However when I heard about the brand new BlackBerry PlayBook, I became very psyched. This most definately challenges the Apple iPad with additional features. It will work great with my BlackBerry bold for work and school. I can’t wait to get one early next year.
