There are two kinds of people in the world – Those who have seen Gunda, and those who haven’t. – Some wise dude.
Today, I have transcended all intellectual, cinematic and logical boundaries to become one of the first kind.
Kanti Shah’s Gunda is very much a classic – a milestone in B Grade Indian cinema. There is a reason it has a respectable 8.3 rating on IMDB. Mithunda truly is Prabhuji and I, a believer now. The dialogues are amazing, and all of them seem to rhyme. It has everything a typical B Grade Bollywood potboiler has – dancing around trees for no apparent reason, the hero felling fierce villains in one blow, an old father and a obese (though nicely endowed) sister whose looted izzat is to be avenged, and to top it all – classic villains like Bulla, Lamboo Atta, Chutya, Ibu Hatela, Pote etc. Once you have seen this masterpiece, you will never look at movies the way you did before.
To give you a feel of the brilliantly rhyming dialogues in Gunda, these are some of the introductory dialogues by the villains.
Bulla – Mera naam hain Bulla, rakhta hoon main Khullaa.
Chutya – Mera naam hai chutya, acche accho ki khadi karta hu main khatiya.
Ibu Hatela – Mera naam Ibu Hatela, Ma meri chudail ki beti, baap mera shaitan ka chela, khayega kela?
Pote – Jo aapne baap ke bhi naheen hote.
Isn’t it sheer poetic genius? It is strewn throughout the movie. Every dialogue is in the form of rhyming couplets.
ROFL? Absolutely!
Words simply can’t do justice to this brilliant masterpiece by Kanti Shah. You have to see it to believe it. There are some life defining events which change your life forever. This would definitely be one.
My Rating: 9 / 10.
Note: Please don’t try to deduce the logic behind the scenes, just enjoy the movie for what it is.

And to think it was never nominated for the Oscars. Fuck ‘em. They can’t ever understand such a fantastic story, such awesome screenplay, such a great ensemble, awesome acting and mind-”blasting” dialogues.
Pure unadulterated genius, I tell ya. Mithun ki jai ho! And the badass villains. There can’t be any parallel to them in history of this universe (although I’m not counting Loha, another epic by His Awesomeness Kanti Shah starring His Manliness Garam Dharam along with Prabhuji Mithun Da, coz all the villains are the same).
Everytime I see Gunda, I have tears in my eyes. Oh the joy!
