How to Install Android 2.2 Froyo on HTC Desire
How to Upgrade HTC Desire to Android 2.2 Froyo
To install Android 2.2 Froyo on your HTC Desire, you can either use the official OTA update or a custom Froyo ROM.
Official Android 2.2 Froyo ROM Install (Recommended)
Download the official Android 2.2 Froyo HTC Desire ROM from HTC
Rename it to update.zip and copy it to your SD card via USB.
Switch off your phone and while holding the Volume Down button, power it back on.
Enter the recovery mode and press the Power button and the Volume Up button.
Select Apply sdcard:update.zip
Your Android 2.2 install should soon be complete and you can reboot your HTC Desire.
Custom ROM Install Method (Only if the official method doesn’t work)

Fakeflash
Prerequisites
A rooted phone
EXT3 partition on the SD card
Fakeflash Installed on SD card
Installing the Android 2.2 Froyo ROM
Enter the recovery mode on your HTC Desire by switching off your phone, pressing Volume Down then pressing the Power button.
Make all the wipes available, use Fakeflash to install the ROM on your SD card and reboot the phone.
Installing Radio
Enter the recovery mode again (Volume Down + Power) and use Fakeflash to make all the wipes available. Install the RadioUpdate.zip file on your SD card.
Reboot your phone again and you should have Android 2.2 Froyo installed on your HTC Desire.

Tried to do this to my desire which has 2.1 mine is also a telstra phone. So any ideas on how to get froyo on it?

Tried to do this but when I press volume down and power all it does is just vibrate. It never goes into recovery mode.

Very loud and clear when using to make calls, talk radio and listening to music. It is a small speaker so you will not get a lot (if any) bass from this little speaker.
