This tutorial explains how you can install Chrome OS on a USB drive and then boot directly from it.
To create a Live Chrome OS USB drive,
Download the Chrome OS Image by Hexxeh.
Next, burn the IMG on your USB drive using W32DiskImager.
You now have a bootable Live USB drive with Chrome OS installed. Just select the USB drive as the primary boot device and boot from it to run Chrome OS.

What format is needed? FAT32, FAT, or NTFS?
