Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S 2 – XDA

The Samsung Galaxy S 2 is definitely the best smartphone yet. If you are planning to buy a Samsung Galaxy S 2 soon, you might want to root it too, and also try custom ROMs once you are bored of the bundled one.

Gingerbreak was a one-click rooting tool which could be used to root many Android devices running Gingerbread. Apparently, it seems to work with the Galaxy S 2 as well.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S 2

Download the Gingerbreak APK

Download Gingerbreak APK

Open your phone’s settings and enable USB Debugging mode (Settings > Applications > Development > Enable USB Debugging).

Copy the Gingerbreak APK to the SD card of your Galaxy S 2 and install it on your phone using Astro File Manager or Apps Installer.

Run the Gingerbreak app and follow the instructions.

Your Samsung Galaxy S 2 should now be rooted.

Note: This method is a bit risky, and very premature. Wait for some time, for a better alternative. I will update this post soon.

Thanks to Geohot, you now know how to jailbreak the PS3 (Sony Play Station 3). Geohot demoed homebrew on the PS3 just yesterday and he is already back with a full PS3 hack.

He has released a package that enables anyone to install a custom homebrew on their PS3 and also enables hot loading of game files.  It’s only for those on the 3.55 FW.

How To Enable Android Market on Nook Color – Tutorial

The Nook Color is an excellent ebook reader which also doubles up as a cheap Android tablet. It retails for about $250 and has been very popular with the Android hacker community.

In this tutorial, I will explain how you can read your Kindle books on the Nook Color. You can also use this tutorial just to get Android Market enabled on the Nook Color.

Download and Read Kindle Books on Nook Color

First of all, you need to root the Nook Color. Check out this guide for basic instructions – How to Root Nook Color

Just download AutoNooter.

Write the image to your microSD card using Win32DiskImager. Insert the card into your Nook and press the Power button for 15 seconds.

Connect it to your PC. It should detected as a new USB device.

Hold the power button again for about 15 seconds and release it. Press it again to turn it on. Now you will see a red splash screen.

As the Nook Color boots, you will be prompted or your Gmail account and some settings.

You can now find the Android Market in the Extras Folder. Search for the Kindle app and install it.

You can now download and read Kindle books on your Nook Color.

How to Unlock Google Nexus S Bootloader

You need to have the Android 2.3 Gingerbread SDK installed.

To Unlock Nexus S Bootloader

1. Switch off your Google Nexus S

2. Press the Volume Up + Power buttons to reboot it in the standard recovery mode.

3. Open the Command Prompt (Run > CMD) and type fastboot devices to make sure that your phone is connected via USB

4. Type adb reboot bootloader and fastboot oem unlock to unlock your bootloader.

5. Select Yes, Unlock Bootloader using the volume keys.

To Lock Nexus S Bootloader

1. Type adb reboot bootloader

2. Type fastboot oem lock

The Nook Color, a $250 Android ebook reader has been rooted by the XDA community. Here’s a tutorial which explains how you can root your Nook Color.

How to Root the Nook Color And Install Android Apps and Games on it.

What You Need

1. A Nook Color
2. 64 MB+ microSD card
3. A computer (Windows, Linux or Mac)

Steps to Root a Nook Color (Android)

1. Download this file – Pokey9000′s Nooter

2. Extract the image file from the ZIP archive and write it on your microSD card.

Tutorials to write the image on Linux, Windows and Mac OS X.

3. Remove the microSD card and insert it into your Nook. Press the power button for 15 seconds to turn it on and connect it to your PC using the USB cable.

4. The Nook Color will boot from the microSD card. Your computer should detect a new USB device in about 30 seconds.

5. Now remove the microSD card and reboot the Nook Color. It should boot normally.

6. Now, the Nook Color has been modified to enable ADB connections. You need to modify the ADB INI file before you can use it to install apps on the Nook Color. – Here’s how.

7. To install apps and games on your Nook Color, just run this command using ADB

ADB install package.apk

where package.apk is the APK of the app you want to install.
