Sony Playstation PSP Phone Review: First Look and Specifications

It seems like the rumored PSP phone by Sony wasn’t a rumor after all. It’s very real, and it’s awesome. Engadget, today, revealed some detailed images and specifications of the soon-to-be-launched Sony Playstation phone.

Sony Playstation PSP Phone Review: Specifications

It will sport a horizontal slider design with a 4.1 inch touchscreen display and a sliding control pad. It will run Android 3.0 Gingerbread and will support both the Android Market and a custom Sony Marketplace which will offer games designed specifically for the PSP phone.

It will be powered by a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 processor with 512 MB RAM. It has a 1 GB ROM and supports microSD cards. It will likely launch in Q1 2011, though a late 2010 holiday release seems plausible too.

Finally an awesome Android phone to replace my aging PSP and not-so-smart Symbian phone. The perfect device for all gaming geeks. Definitely my next phone (For real, this time).

For more details, head over to Engadget.

Note: I hope the Apple-Sony buyout deal doesn’t happen now, as we all know what the fate of this phone will be, if that deal does go through.

How to Mod/Hack the PS3?

As far as I know (and can search), there is no working mod or hack for the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) which will let you play downloaded games on the PS3. Geohot (the man who first hacked the iPhone is working on it, so a working mod should probably be out soon). Check his blog for updates on the hack - GeoHot PS3

But I repeat, There is no working hack or mod available for the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) yet. The Belzar PS3 mod chip is just a rumor. It doesn’t exist.

There is a way to download game demos from the PS3 store and install / play them on your PS3 but it no longer works.

If there is any working hack that you know of, leave a comment. Keep checking GeoHot PS3 and PS3 Hacks for updates on the mod.

Update: The Geohot PS3 Jailbreak hack is now available. Check out this link – Jailbreak the PS3 Using Geohot’s Hack

The new Sony PSP Go has been unveiled by Sony today at the E3 press conference.

It seems to have been modelled after the Sony Mylo and has significant improvements over the PSP 3000. It has a sliding form factor with better controls, Bluetooth and 16 GB internal memory. Reportedly, it has just a 3.8″ display compared to the 4.3″ one on the previous versions. It’s also 40% lighter than the PSP 3000. With the PSP Go, Sony ditches the UMD drive and has launched the online Playstation Game Store to allow direct game downloads. IMO, the older candybar design was much better than this one. Also I would’ve liked a bigger display. More details to be updated soon.

How to Install Games on your PSP

-

This Tutorial will show you How to install PTF and CTF themes on your PSP.

What are PTF and CTF Themes?

PTF themes are the basic themes you can install on your PSP. They are officially allowed by Sony and can be installed simply by copying them to the THEME folder on your PSP.

CTF Themes are customized themes which work only on modded PSPs with CFW installed. You need to install the CXMB plugin in order to use CTF themes. CTF Themes are generally much better than PTF themes.

Install PTF Themes on PSP

- Connect the PSP to your computer using the data cable and goto Settings > USB Connection.

- Open your PSP drive (Suppose X:\) in My Computer, and goto the X:\PSP\THEME folder. If it isn’t there already, create a new folder and rename it to THEME. The absolute path of the folder should be X:\PSP\THEME. Copy the .PTF theme file to X:\PSP\THEME (X:\PSP\THEME\themename.PTF).

- Disconnect your PSP from the PC and goto Settings > Theme Settings. Select your Custom Theme and apply it.

Install CTF Themes on PSP

- Installing CTF themes is a bit more complicated than installing PTF themes. You will first need to install the CXMB plugin for your CFW version on your PSP. Check out the How To Install Plugins on PSP guide for more details.

- Connect the PSP to your computer using the data cable and goto Settings > USB Connection.

- To install the CXMB plugin, first download the CXMB plugin for your CFW version. You can Google it up or try http://dl.qj.net. After downloading it, just extract it and locate the FULL and LITE folders. From the FULL folder, copy the cxmb folder to the Root of your PSP such that its absolute path is X:\cxmb

- Goto the X:\seplugins folder and edit VSH.txt to include this line at the end:
ms0:/cxmb/cxmb.prx. Now restart the PSP and boot into recovery mode and enable the CXMB plugin. For more details on how to install and enable plugins, check out the How To Install Plugins on PSP tutorial.

- Now to install CTF themes, just download CTF themes and copy the .CTF file to X:\PSP\THEME (X:\PSP\THEME\themename.CTF) just like a normal PTF theme.

- Disconnect your PSP from the PC and goto Settings > Theme Settings. Select your Custom Theme and apply it.

Happy Theming!

Note: You can Download the CXMB plugin, PTF and CTF themes from http://dl.qj.net. You can also get tons of other resources from torrents and other sites.

How to Install Games on your PSP

-

If you have a modded PSP with CFW (Custom Firmware) installed, you can install many plugins in your PSP.

How To Install Plugins on PSP

1. Download the Plugin

- There are many sources to download plugins for your PSP. The most popular one I know is http://dl.qj.net/PSP/catid/106 . You can also find many plugins on torrent sites. Most of them are just a Google search away.

- Next, check whether the plugin is compatible with your PSP Firmware version. Some plugins don’t work with the latest CFW 5.00 M33-4.

- Extract the plugin files to any folder. You should get a .PRX file alongwith a Readme or Help file. The procedure to install the plugins is explained in that Help file. I will enlist the general procedure.

2. Copy the Plugin to your PSP

- Connect the PSP to your computer using the data cable and goto Settings > USB Connection.

- Open your PSP drive (Suppose X:\) in My Computer, and goto the seplugins folder. If it isn’t there already, create a new folder and rename it to seplugins. The absolute path of the folder should be X:\seplugins. Copy the .PRX file of your plugin to X:\seplugins.

- Now create files called VSH.txt, GAME.txt, GAME150.txt and POPS.txt in the seplugins folder. Depending on when you want to enable the plugin, just enter the path of the plugin in the corresponding txt file.

Code: ms0:/seplugins/pluginname.prx

Remember to substitute pluginname.prx with your plugin’s name.

In the following text files,
VSH.txt : If you want the plugin to be active in the XMB, add the line to VSH.txt.

GAME.txt – If you want the plugin to be active when you play any ISO / CSO or UMD game, add the line to GAME.txt.

GAME150.txt – If you want the plugin to be active when you play any homebrew game, add the line to GAME150.txt.

POPS.txt – If you want the plugin to be active when you play any PSX game, add the line to POPS.txt.

Most of the plugins need to be enabled only in the XMB, so just add that line to VSH.txt and save it. Keep the other files blank.

For example if you are installing the very useful HOLD plugin, enter ms0:/seplugins/HOLD.prx in VSH.txt.

If you want to install two plugins, just insert two lines in the corresponding file: VSH.txt >

ms0:/seplugins/plugin1.prx

ms0:/seplugins/plugin2.prx

3. Enable the Plugin:

- Switch off the PSP and restart it while holding the Right button to access the Recovery mode.

- In the recovery menu, just goto Plugins (Press X), and enable your plugin. Go back and exit the recovery mode. If everything went right and the plugin is compatible with your firmware version, your plugin should be enabled now.

If you have any doubts or need help finding a plugin, leave a comment.
